Hong Kong Part 6: A Trip to The Big Buddha
Near the end of our HK trip, sometime during the last 4/5 days I believe, Susan, Josh, Jacquie and I finally made the effort and put time aside to visit the renowned Big Buddha monument. I can’t speak for Jacquie but the last time I visited the Big Buddha was over 10 years ago, it was the first time for Susan and Josh, but it might as well been the first time for me too because I didn’t remember a DAMN thing lol. I didn’t remember the cable car, the scenery, the village, or the view from up top… the only thing I vaguely remembered from my visit as a kid were the steps going up. Not surprising.
I wish I knew more about this monument, but seeing as how I’m not a Buddhist nor a HK local, I really don’t know what else to say lol. I do find it weird though… that a religious monument is being exploited as a tourist attraction. I remember there was quite the juxtaposition (hey ladies, look at me using a fancy word *wink*) when I was walking around snapping pics… you would see hardcore tourists doing their thing, turn around, then see a legit monk doing his thing *shrug*. Besides that I remember it was UNBELIEVABLY hot & sunny this day, which led me to purchase some bootleg Ray-Bans before we took the cable car up lol.
Random side thought… I wonder if this Buddha is hollow or not…
